So, after a rocky first week in Groningen, I can officially say: Holland is great! And here’s a free pattern!
Aside from bicycling, making paintings, and eating far too many stroopwafels than should be humanly possible, I have been knitting. Before I left Philly, I started a pair of Latvian Mittens for a friend:
Unfortunately, they would probably only fit a 6 year old, so I frogged them and have started anew. I couldn’t get a looser gauge to work with the yarn (a mix of Harrisville Designs Shetland, Rowan Tweed, and Jamieson’s Spindrift), so I added in an extra repeat of pattern, and things seem to be working well. I’m sorry the photo is so crappy, it was cloudy and rainy all day here. Still, the colors sort of match Groningen, don’t you think?
I’m going to Belgium for a little while, and then on to Amsterdam, so I’ll be on the prowl for European yarns. If anyone has any tips on what to look for, I’d appreciate them.
Dank u wel!

I want a stroopwafel – yum! I may need to stop at Bonte on my way home today.
